This week, we're getting NY Ecologically
grown Mutsu apples and organically grown shallots, Pennsylvania chickweed
(a spring tonic; eat in salad or add to soup at the last minute. The local
season is underway!) and watermelon radishes, California arugula, broccoli,
carrots, collard greens, red leaf lettuce, onions (soft at this time of
year but we needed onions˜store in fridge and use quickly,) parsnips,
russet potatoes and strawberries; Washington Asian pears with some surface
blemishes (ripe as they are,) zucchini from Mexico and Ecuadorian bananas.
Cauliflower or green beans are make-ups. Please call immediately with
quality issues.
Fruit shares are getting strawberries,
pineapple, Valencia oranges and grapefruit. Fruit shares are $20, or three
or more, $17. Please order by Monday morning, or call to cancel or confirm
by then as well.
Dividers, please be vigilant about quality
and call us right away so we can get credit from suppliers. Dividing instructions
are in the manila envelope sent with each delivery. Please get an ok from
the office if you think it best not to give out an entire case of something.
Always get an ok from the office before you divide two of something if
the dividing instructions don't say to divide two cases, bags, etc.

Save money by helping out! Pick-up sites
needed for Sat. Bergenfield/Teaneck pod and
a temporary home is needed in the area for June, July and August. Morristown
area needs a pick-up site ASAP and Summit needs
a new host starting soon. Please call for details. Takes about an hour
per week; discount each delivery. A few new members needed in the Cliffwood
Beach area˜call & we‚ll mail them our information.

After 14 years, we are giving our coordinators a bigger
discount. We also have expenses of our larger warehouse (we bought walk-in
refrigerators˜costly but we can take advantage of deals.) We‚re
paying our drivers more to offset the high gas prices. Shares are $3 more

Southern Style Greens and Potatoes
1-2 bu. collard greens, stemmed and sliced 4-6 potatoes, scrubbed and
cut in large chunks
2-4 strips turkey bacon or soy bacon olive oil
Steam potatoes and greens until just tender. In a large skillet or Dutch
oven, cook turkey bacon in olive oil. Remove bacon. Add potatoes to olive
oil and cook, stirring frequently, until browned. Add greens and crumbled
turkey bacon. Mix together and serve.
Richard Considine, who handles special projects for us and was instrumental
in completing the set-up of our new warehouse, is in the hospital with
a presumed spinal infection and is in a lot of pain. If you would like
to send a get-well card, send it to this office and we will bring them
