Dear Co-op Members,

Vitamin Order Forms are DUE! Please call if you have not mailed yours yet!

The rain on our coast is delaying growth and harvesting for local crops. Prices overall remain high, which is why our orders are smaller than usual for this time of year. Fruit prices are coming down, however, so enjoy the fruit. Strawberries have been an excellent buy.

Pod News: Thank you to Mary Polo, whose pod is moving to Tamima Friedman’s, Margaret Lewis/Wendy Kelly moving to Nancy Shiber's and changing to Thursdays, and Lucy Thompson, whose group is moving to Catherine Lyons’. Members of Mary’s and Jonne’s pod: Jonne’s new house is closer to Mary’s and Tamima’s is closer to Jonne’s old one˜want to switch groups? Call PD office and we’ll help.

This week, we’re getting New York Ecologically Grown Empire apples and organically grown baby Deer’s Tongue lettuce and lamb’s quarters (for salad,) and radishes (good for the heart and blood;) Colorado spinach, California broccoli, red cabbage (possibly a half if they are large,) carrots, white corn, leeks, lemons, romaine lettuce, russet potatoes, strawberries; Tommy Atkins mangoes, orange-flesh honeydew melons; tomatoes from Mexico and Ecuadorian bananas. The onion price remains so high we got leeks and potatoes instead for the same amount of money. Please call immediately with any quality questions.

Fruit shares are getting cantaloupes, Valencia oranges, peaches, strawberries and Packham pears. Fruit shares are $20, or three or more, $17. Please order by Monday morning, or call to cancel or confirm by then as well.

Dividing instructions are in the manila envelope sent with each delivery. Dividers, please be vigilant about quality and call us right away so we can get credit from suppliers. Please get an ok from the office if you think it best not to give out an entire case of something. Always get an ok from the office before you divide two of something if the dividing instructions don't say to divide two cases, bags, etc.

What’s coming in the order email (Tues. for Wed./Thurs. groups; Thurs. for Sat. groups): Send your name and your coordinator's name to janit@verizon.net to get on the list.

Save money by helping out! Sat. Summit pod need a new host starting in June. Please call for details. Takes about an hour per week; $40 discount each delivery.

The local farm season is beginning now. Try to stay in the co-op even if you will be traveling this summer. Find a friend to take your spot if you will be away, or donate it or give it to someone to whom you owe a favor. Our small, regional farmers need our support to stay in business. Last year, we lost two who could not survive despite all their hard work. For environmental and economic reasons, we need to keep organic farming going in our area. Thanks for your help!

Co-op Classifieds: Co-opers needed to speak to people about Purple Dragon in September, one hour or longer shifts at a farm fair in W. Jersey & a health fair in Summit. Please call to let us know if you would be interested. You would probably enjoy the fairs, too! (973) 429-0391
