Dear Co-op Members,

Next delivery is Wednesday, July 2. The following deliveries are on Thursdays: July 17& 31; August 14, skipping Aug. 28; Sept. 4 & 18; Oct. 2, 16 & 30; Nov. 18 & Tues. Nov. 25.

Vitamins have been shipped. You should have them in a day or so. Let us know if not.

The local season is beginning now. Try to stay in the co-op even if you will be traveling this summer. Find a friend to take your spot if you will be away, or donate it or give it to someone to whom you owe a favor. Our small, regional farmers need our support to stay in business. Last year, we lost two who could not survive despite all their hard work. For environmental and economic reasons, we need to keep organic farming going in our area. Thanks for your help!

This week, we're getting New York Ecologically Grown Empire apples and organically grown assorted greens; either han tat sai, mizuna or tat soi; red and green leaf lettuces, Pennsylvania crimini mushrooms (to make up for problem spinach in the last order,) California broccoli, cantaloupe, carrots, bicolor corn, nectarines, russet potatoes (a bit soft but $40 less per case than the new crop!), large Thompson raisins (we got a great deal on these and weâre helping a supplier,) strawberries, zucchini, Hawaiian ginger (to take dampness out of your lungs,) green bell peppers and grape tomatoes from Mexico and Ecuadorian bananas. Groups that were missing lemons or mangoes in the last order are getting them today. The onion price is still ridiculous. Please call immediately with any quality questions.

Fruit shares are getting mangoes, strawberries, red plums and Perlette grapes. Fruit shares are $20, or three or more, $17. Please order by Monday morning, or call to cancel or confirm by then as well.

A few new members are needed for the groups in Teaneck, Waldwick, Valley Cottage and Staten Island. Please call or email with names, addresses and phone numbers of any potentially interested friends in these (or any) areas and we will send a brochure. Thank you for your help in this.

Dividing instructions are in the manila envelope sent with each delivery. Dividers, please be vigilant about quality and call us right away so we can get credit from suppliers. Please get an ok from the office if you think it best not to give out an entire case of something. Always get an ok from the office before you divide two of something if the dividing instructions don't say to divide two cases, bags, etc.

What's coming in the order email (Tues. for Wed./Thurs. groups; Thurs. for Sat. groups): Send your name and your coordinator's name to janit@verizon.net to get on the list.

How to make a Special Order: Call the office on Monday of your order week. Pay for your special orders by giving your coordinator a check before the delivery payable to Purple Dragon. Write the item and coordinator's name on the comment line. Or send it to us.

Last week was National HIV Testing Week. If you have never had a test, please do so. People can seem healthy for 10-20 years and their partners can remain uninfected. My boyfriend just died of AIDS, and we had no idea he was HIV+ until April. He was extremely strong, energetic and robust into February. There are excellent medicines to fight this nowadays if you get an early diagnosis. You can get a free, anonymous test in East Orange and many other locations. (Thank you to everyone who has given me their ears and kind counsel during this time. xx-janit)
